Publishing
Press and publishing facilities produce significant peak demand levels due to the large printing presses and associated usage. As a result, they are excellent candidates for implementation of the automated peak load management system from Powerit Solutions. Printing facilities significantly reduce their peak demand charges by using the Energy Director to manage a number of non-production facility loads to shed power and offset the peaks caused during press runs. As a result operating costs are reduced without impacting building comfort, production or safety.
What is “demand control”?
Demand Control, also called demand management, is the process of understanding where, when and why energy demand spikes occur and taking ongoing, automatic measures to reduce them or shift them with minimal impact on facility operations. What is “demand response”?
Demand Response is the concept of end-user customers changing their electric energy usage in response to changes in electricity rates or incentives provided by utility companies. The goal for utility companies is to lower system-wide demand during peak times through controlled loads rather than building additional power generation infrastructure. Customers can use the system to monitor its operations and turn certain functions on and off within certain demand intervals, thereby reducing any peaks. This short load interaction is managed without interruption of vital operations such as air handling, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, lighting, recycling and waste treatment. The Energy Director controls critical processes that lead to a 10% to 40% reduction in peak demand and a savings of 5% to 10% of total energy bills.
Typical publishing loads the Energy Director can optimize include:
- chillers
- HVAC
- air handling units
- hot water heaters
- waste water pumps
