Wood Products

Rigorous chemical and mechanical systems make lumber facilities incredibly energy intensive. The Energy Director system controls loads such as drying kilns, by-product waste handling, chip board and wood pellet operations, and paper fiber bleaching and chemical treatment. Customers also use the system to monitor and archive temperature and humidity of its production batches. Over 40 lumber facilities use the Energy Director to control power-intensive process loads. Overall peak demand savings range from 15 – 40 percent, resulting in 10 – 15 percent reductions in total energy bills and a payback period of less than two years.

Typical wood product loads the Energy Director can optimize include:

  • drying kilns
  • by-product waste handling
  • chip board operations
  • wood pellet operations
  • paper fiber bleaching
  • chemical treatment processes

What is “demand control”?
Demand Control, also called demand management, is the process of understanding where, when and why energy demand spikes occur and taking ongoing, automatic measures to reduce them or shift them with minimal impact on facility operations. Learn more about Intelligent Demand Control provided by Powerit Solutions.

What is “demand response”?
Demand Response is the concept of end-user customers changing their electric energy usage in response to changes in electricity rates or incentives provided by utility companies.  The goal for utility companies is to lower system-wide demand during peak times through controlled loads rather than building additional power generation infrastructure.  Learn more about Intelligent Demand Response provided by Powerit Solutions.

Customers can use the system to monitor its operations and turn certain functions on and off within certain demand intervals, thereby reducing any peaks. This short load interaction is managed without interruption of vital operations such as air handling, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, lighting, recycling and waste treatment. The Energy Director controls critical processes that lead to a 10% to 40% reduction in peak demand and a savings of 5% to 10% of total energy bills.
